  •  The Complex Systems Research Laboratory (CSRL) designs system modeling, analysis, and visualization theory and tools to assist in the design and operation of safer systems with greater capability.

  •  CarTel is a distributed, mobile sensor network and telematics system. Applications built on top of this system can collect, analyze, and deliver data from sensors on automobiles and smartphones and provide interesting services to users regarding their commutes. Principal Investigators/Director:  Hari Balakrishnan, Sam Madden, Daniela Rus

  •  The Cooperative Mobility Program (CMP) supports a vision of a sustainable, multi-modal transportation system that will provide the mobility necessary to foster global economic development while remaining compatible with social needs and environmental protection. Director: Daniel Roos

  • The overarching focus of the MIT Portugal Program (MPP) Transportation Systems is the design of complex, large-scale systems that have major societal impact and provide opportunities for sustainable economic development, specifically in a technology-intensive, intermodal transportation system. Principal Investigator: Chris Zegras

  • The Intelligent Transportation Research Center (ITRC) focuses on key Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies to improve the safety, security, efficiency, mobile access, and environment. Director: Ichiro Masaki

  • The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) conducts multi-disciplinary research on the applications of modern information technologies to transportation systems. Initial efforts include the conceptual design of intelligent transportation systems and computer tools for design and evaluation of ITS services. Director: Moshe Ben-Akiva

  • The goal of the International Center for Air Transportation (ICAT) is to improve the safety, efficiency and capacity of domestic and international air transportation and its infrastructure, utilizing information technology and human centered systems analysis. Director: R. John Hansman

  • The International Motor Vehicle Program (IMVP) is the oldest and largest international research consortium aimed at understanding the challenges facing the global automotive industry and focuses on management issues including production systems, technology, and sustainability issues.
Directors: John Paul MacDuffie, Charles Fine

  • The Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS) is an interdepartmental research laboratory with a fundamental research goal of advancing the field of systems, communications and control.
