Transportation Education

MIT provides students with a broad range of opportunities for transportation-related education and training. Courses and classes span the School of Engineering, the Sloan School of Management, the School of Architecture and Planning and the School of Science, with many activities covering interdisciplinary topics that prepare students for future industry, government, or academic careers.

 

Undergraduate Education

MIT undergraduates spend a significant part of their time satisfying core requirements for their home departments.  MIT does not have a specific undergraduate transportation degree, but project work in core courses, elective courses, and undergraduate theses can be tailored to a student’s interests, including transportation. Please use the course listing at the right to find transportation-related courses that can be used to satisfy specific degree requirements or can serve as electives, capstones, and advanced topics.

Graduate Education

MIT provides a variety of graduate degrees for students interested in transportation studies and research. Graduate students can choose from a wide range of introductory or advanced courses related to transportation (see course listing at the right).

Professional Education

MIT Professional Education offers short courses (typically 4-5 days) in transportation and other topics for professionals.  Short program attendees are mostly mid-career technical, business, and government professionals who wish to gain crucial knowledge and take home applicable skills. Current transportation courses include “Design of Motors, Generators and Drive Systems,” “Modeling and Simulation of Transportation Networks” and “Airport and Airline Systems – Planning, Design and Management.”
